Magnetic Toaster Tong

Growing up, my mother always told me not to put metal in the toaster oven. You know how sometimes your toast or bagels can get caught in there and you need something to pull it out. I would always reach for the fork and I would get scolded and told that I would be electrocuted if I put that in there. Who knows if it is true or just one of those mom myths but I wasn’t going to take a chance so I tried to find other alternatives. Here is a great tool that I know my mom would love and approve of too. It is a Magnetic Toaster Tong from CatchingFireflies.com. It’s not metal but rather made of wood and the perfect width to fit right in the toaster and pry out the bread that is not cooperating with you. Even better, it is magnetic so it can stick to the side of the toaster and be right there when you need it.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Slouch Boot: Damn Hot or Damn Shame?

Marc by Marc Jacobs Slouch Boot

So the saying goes - ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover’ which I guess for the fashion world can be translated into ‘you can’t judge fashion by the name on the label.’ Just because something is a designer brand doesn’t necessarily mean it is a must-have. Take the Marc by Marc Jacobs Shoes Slouch Boot which I think are a good demonstration of the above mentioned motto. I don’t know what to think about these. I personally have not been a fan of the slouch boot style so maybe I am just not looking at these with an open mind, but, to me, they look like leg warmers sewn into the inside seam of a shoe. The bottom shoe part is brown leather with a brown suede top that has elastic which is pulled together and tied to make them stay up on your calves. Maybe they look really good once you try them on but I don’t think I could pull them off and I am not sure I would want to try.

But we do realize and respect that everyone has their own eye for fashion so we want to know what you think about these boots! Tell us how you really feel by taking our short poll below or by leaving a comment.

DIY Rockin’ Vinyl Record Bowl

While they might not come out as pretty as the record bowls from uncommon goods, the cool new addition to the Sugar Network, Casasugar, has a DIY Rockin’ Vinyl Record Bowl tutorial that can save you money and get rid of some of those old vinyl records you don’t know what to do with. All you need is an old record, an oven, an oven safe bowl, cookie sheet and time. These would be perfect for party bowls and conversation starters. What can you think of using them for?

What was once old is new again with the Nike Vintage Running Collection. Nike goes back in time to bring you old school style and with new school function. The collection features 5 sneakers from the 70’s all brought back for an encore and each having it’s own detailed vintage look right out of the box. My favorite is the DayBreak (pictured). Now all you need are some short shorts and long sideburns to complete the look.

Important Paperweight

important paperweight

With all the lists and notes that I write myself I need to make sure they stay in place so I actually see them and they serve their purpose. Usually, I just use something on my desk or dresser to place over the piece of paper and serve as a paperweight. This Important Paperweight from Chiasso is so much better. It puts a fun and witty twist on a regular and boring paperweight. It is made of vinyl and steel and comes in the shape of a crumpled up piece of paper. Just be sure it is not mistaken for trash!

Stash Sandal

Stash Sandal

I would say that I am somewhat high-maintenance when it comes to traveling or heading to the beach or pool. As much as I try to limit the amount of stuff that I bring with me, I always end up with too much to lug around. Sometimes, I would just like to head out with no bag at all, but, there is always that issue of where to put your money and your keys. We came across this line of flip-flops that come with built-in storage. The Stash Sandal line is pretty innovative. It looks like a standard flip-flop with a thicker rubber heel. The back of the heel has a pull-out drawer to hold your belongings such as cash, a credit card and your car and house keys. Obviously it doesn’t hold everything that can fit in your pocketbook but it can hold all the necessities and no one would ever think to look in the sole of your shoes if they are trying to steal from you!
