Britney Spears - Blackout

By Hali Felice | November 2, 2007

As I walked the aisles the other day at my local Target, I was searching for something very particular and what seemed to me at the time, very mortifying. I was actually looking for the new Britney Spears CD, Blackout.

The gal that has been dubbed by the media, the public and her fellow peers as having a “mental breakdown, being “an unfit mother,” and ” completely incapable of making a comeback,” seems to have done something right (for once). Whether it be the work of her great producers or her own raw talent (or both), the CD Blackout is nothing to blacklist or be mortified about purchasing. The 12 track, much anticipated and much scrutinized CD offers a brief remembrance in the Britney we all used to know and love (cue her tight abs, scandalous kisses and that large python). With the world watching (and listening), this CD basically had to make up for a small portion of what Ms. Spears lost over the course of the year. And in my opinion, it certainly does. With techno beats and something more than a pop feel, Britney takes us into the 21st century club scene and gives off a sort of “I am not going anywhere” image. With the track, “Piece of Me”, Britney offers us lyrics like, “I’m Miss bad media karma, Another day, another drama, Guess I can’t see the harm, In working and being a mama, And with a kid on my arm, I’m still an exceptional earner, You want a piece of me.”

Mostly this CD represents Britney’s maturity musically (since lately we have not been able to see such publicly). The lyrics for many of the songs are more R rated than those on her earlier albums, with tracks such as, “Email My Heart,” “Oops I Did It Again,” and “Lucky,” just to name a few. The only thing lacking on her new Blackout album is her typical ballads. With the success of past ballads, we were hoping for just one tear jerker, but alas she offered us zippo. Maybe it’s her way of not showing any weakness on her album, as she battles her very public media meltdown.

All in all, we hope that this is the start of a more mature and stable Britney. Her new CD Blackout is now available in stores and hopefully can show the world that maybe, just maybe, she still does good at what she does best; music.
