The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
Chick lit is great for some, but if you are anything like me, reading about shopping, manicures and boy bashing isn’t exactly on your list of things to do during your relaxation time. That is why Melissa Bank became an instant favorite with her book, “A Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing,” the second I opened it up. After finishing that book, I desperately sought out for another by Bank, and luckily enough I found the book, “The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank,” at the local library. After finishing it in less than 3 days, I found “The Wonder Spot”
,” to be absolutely “wonderful.” Much like her first book, Bank offers the ever so cliche chick lit genre a new twist. A dry humored and more realistic approach to the world of the 20-30 something, “The Wonder Spot,” includes a number of short stories compiled together with the same main character during different monumental times in her life. Following along from her pre-teen years up until her mid 30’s, “The Wonder Spot,” hits the “spot” with many ages. If you are looking for a book to relate to, with the everyday struggles of finding yourself and your “calling,” this is a fantastic read for you! I found such a relation to the book, that I myself almost thought Bank used my own life as the basis for the stories. A page turner for sure.

My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008
If you are looking for a book that will move mountains…good luck. If you are looking for a book that will move you, then we have a great recommendation. Best selling author Jodi Picoult’s most popular book, “My Sister’s Keeper” is a story for many ages. Young and old alike will enjoy the writing style of Picoult, as well as the story that she unfolds about a young girl conflicted with the thoughts that she was born solely as her sister’s medical beneficiary. Picoult reveals topics such as genetic planning, cancer and medical emancipation, all within a storyline that will capture your attention and your heart. As much as this book is heart wrenching, it is also heart warming. A page turner no doubt (most of Picoult’s books are). How will the main character Anna choose to live her life? In the pursuit of saving her only sister? Or by choosing to save herself?

27 Dresses DVD
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

As we get into our mid twenties, the time approaches for wedding after wedding after wedding. And while we’d probably love to skip out on a few, how could we possibly miss any of our friend’s “special” days? While you may be thinking it is the end of the world (and your bank account) to attend so many weddings in the course of a few years, nothing can compare to the fiasco that goes down with the main character of the new released DVD, “27 Dresses.” Katherine Heigl (from Grey’s Anatomy) stars in this delightful film about a gal named Jane whose second career is a permanent bridesmaid. The movie even opens with her juggling one night between two different friends’ weddings; and somehow she successfully pulls off this disaster in the making. While Jane’s life continues to cycle like that of a big top circus, she rages on to pursue all 27 weddings…and counting. All the while balancing a wishy-washy career, a crush on her boss and a pesky reporter that won’t seem to leave her alone. And most importantly, forgetting to pave the way for her very own wedding, where she could finally give up that backseat as a bridesmaid. Follow this romantic adventure and find out where the road of bridezillas and wedding cake leads poor ol’ Jane.

Cooking with All Things Trader Joe’s
Thursday, April 24th, 2008
If you have never been to a Trader Joes and there is one near you I would definitely recommend that you check it out. Trader Joes opened in my area a few years ago and I have been going there regularly ever since and cant get enough of it. While you cant get everything from Trader Joes that you can get from a normal supermarket, they do have awesome customer service and a lot of unique things you cant find in the regular supermarket like their line of pasta sauces and their frozen edamame and breaded eggplant that are my favs. I was so excited to see that they have put together the Cooking with All Things Trader Joe’s cookbook and all the recipes can be made using products purchased right in Trader Joes. There are 250 pages of recipes and photos. And what I like even more about it is that most of the recipes are using Trader Joes ingredients that are already prepped for you so they can save you time and effort!
