By now most of the deadlines for standard shipping have passed. There are still a few stores that will do overnight shipping but at an added premium. Those added shipping fees can bust your budget and make you rethink your gift giving. Your friends and loved ones shouldn’t have to suffer because you procrastinated. You can still get them a gift that will arrive on Christmas day without the shipping headache. Why not send them an Email Gift Card?

Email gift cards are the perfect last minute gift for someone you might have forgotten or waited to long to meet the shipping deadlines. You can set them up to arrive in their inbox on Christmas day and even add a little message. Why not get them a email gift card and send a message letting them know what you intended to get them? This also gives them the option to get what they want if what you would have picked out isn’t something they feel they need. Here are a few sites that you can use you give email gift cards. Also check your favorite site to see if they do it too.

My Things

Do you dread the holidays because you never know what to get your friends and family? Shopping for yourself can be hard let alone shopping for others which can cause even more holiday stress; will they like it, will it fit, do they already have something like it. And then there are those people on your holiday gift list that pretty much have everything you can think of and you just become stumped every time you have to think of a present for them. There is a really cool website that can take some of the stress away from gift-giving and help you find the perfect gift for others as well as make sure you get some perfect gifts for yourself too! It’s called the Giftlist from MyThings.com.

mythings.com

It’s a website that lets you find out exactly what the people on your gift list will want and will like. Here is how it works. You create a free account and create a list of possible gifts. You can then email this list anonymously to your friends and family through the website. They will be asked to rate the options or add anything that is missing and you will be able to track their feedback. And to make sure it is kept a surprise, they won’t know who sent them the list. You can also create your own Wishlist through the site and keep track of everything you want so you can give some hints out.

Alicia Keys - As I Am

Alicia Keys - As I Am

While I’m a big fan of Alicia Keys and her work, I’ve always thought she made great songs but never great albums. Her first two albums were both good, but individual tracks stuck out and the album as a whole suffered because the singles were far more superior then the album as a whole . With As I Am, Keys has finally put together an album where each song competes to out do the other.

The first thing you notice about As I Am is the maturation of Alicia Key’s voice. When I first heard No One, the albums single, I thought her voice was strained, but now, after multiple times of listening, it’s grown on me. As a matter of fact I like it! The best example of this would be, Like You’ll Never See Me Again. She’s definitely singing in a different register then she normally does, but that’s what makes these songs great and far better then anything she has done to date. It’s all about the emotion she puts into them.

Alicia Keys - Like You’ll Never See Me Again

If you’re looking for classic Alicia Keys, don’t worry, she shows up on tracks like her collaboration with John Mayer, Lesson Learned. My favorite track on the album (at the moment) would have to be Wreckless Love. This mid-tempo track slowly build as Keys tries to contain her emotions while she sings about recapturing an old relationship. It builds to a crescendo where she can’t contain it anymore and you can feel the emotion burst. This is one of those songs where everything just works. The production is top notch and vocally she’s at her best.

Alicia Keys - Wreckless Love

This album just begs to be sung live and I’m sure when she goes on tour, ticket sales will reflect that. With the lyrical content, great production and Keys at her best, saying this album is anything but a classic would be doing it an injustice. Each time you listen, you hear something new. Definitely her best yet, and in a year with some pretty bad albums and the music industry in decline, this album is a refreshing reminder that there still are true artist out there.

Britney Spears - Blackout

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

As I walked the aisles the other day at my local Target, I was searching for something very particular and what seemed to me at the time, very mortifying. I was actually looking for the new Britney Spears CD, Blackout.

The gal that has been dubbed by the media, the public and her fellow peers as having a “mental breakdown, being “an unfit mother,” and ” completely incapable of making a comeback,” seems to have done something right (for once). Whether it be the work of her great producers or her own raw talent (or both), the CD Blackout is nothing to blacklist or be mortified about purchasing. The 12 track, much anticipated and much scrutinized CD offers a brief remembrance in the Britney we all used to know and love (cue her tight abs, scandalous kisses and that large python). With the world watching (and listening), this CD basically had to make up for a small portion of what Ms. Spears lost over the course of the year. And in my opinion, it certainly does. With techno beats and something more than a pop feel, Britney takes us into the 21st century club scene and gives off a sort of “I am not going anywhere” image. With the track, “Piece of Me”, Britney offers us lyrics like, “I’m Miss bad media karma, Another day, another drama, Guess I can’t see the harm, In working and being a mama, And with a kid on my arm, I’m still an exceptional earner, You want a piece of me.”

Mostly this CD represents Britney’s maturity musically (since lately we have not been able to see such publicly). The lyrics for many of the songs are more R rated than those on her earlier albums, with tracks such as, “Email My Heart,” “Oops I Did It Again,” and “Lucky,” just to name a few. The only thing lacking on her new Blackout album is her typical ballads. With the success of past ballads, we were hoping for just one tear jerker, but alas she offered us zippo. Maybe it’s her way of not showing any weakness on her album, as she battles her very public media meltdown.

All in all, we hope that this is the start of a more mature and stable Britney. Her new CD Blackout is now available in stores and hopefully can show the world that maybe, just maybe, she still does good at what she does best; music.
