The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Chick lit is great for some, but if you are anything like me, reading about shopping, manicures and boy bashing isn’t exactly on your list of things to do during your relaxation time. That is why Melissa Bank became an instant favorite with her book, “A Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing,” the second I opened it up. After finishing that book, I desperately sought out for another by Bank, and luckily enough I found the book, “The Wonder Spot by Melissa Bank,” at the local library. After finishing it in less than 3 days, I found “The Wonder Spot”,” to be absolutely “wonderful.” Much like her first book, Bank offers the ever so cliche chick lit genre a new twist. A dry humored and more realistic approach to the world of the 20-30 something, “The Wonder Spot,” includes a number of short stories compiled together with the same main character during different monumental times in her life. Following along from her pre-teen years up until her mid 30’s, “The Wonder Spot,” hits the “spot” with many ages. If you are looking for a book to relate to, with the everyday struggles of finding yourself and your “calling,” this is a fantastic read for you! I found such a relation to the book, that I myself almost thought Bank used my own life as the basis for the stories. A page turner for sure.

Urban Outfitters has a whole line of colorful graphic dishes and bowls to add to your kitchenware. If you are making a great dinner don’t ruin it by eating it on boring dishware because as they say you eat first with your eyes before you even start consuming the food. You can mix and match the dish and bowl designs because there is more fun in diversity and not having everything uniform. One of the Graphic Bowls is this black and white one. It is a white bowl with black on the bottom. There is also a flower print on the inside of the bowl with a splash of red color from one of the flower petals. These make for pieces to bring out while entertaining as well.

If you like relaxing in a bath then you will really like these bath bombs. Big Blue is made with all natural products including sea salts, seaweed, lavender, and lemon. It brings the tranquility of the ocean right into your bathtub. You break off a section of the bath bomb and drop it right into the water. The bath bomb immediately breaks apart to fill the water, fizz, and even release some of the ingredients into the water like pieces of seaweed and flower petals and will turn your bath water blue just like the ocean. The ingredients will help soak your skin and leave it feeling refreshed and moisturized.

Butter Baby Corn Picks

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I love corn on the cob, but there are many, many nightmares that come along with eating those kernels of goodness. When I was 11, it was the braces, now as I am older, it is the fact that it is too darn difficult to grasp the ends of the corn when it is piping hot and slippery when wet! Now, there is a great and adorable solution to this problem. Unfortunately, there is no good fix for the braces saga. These Butter Baby Corn Picks are ideal when trying to grasp a hold on an ear of corn while it is still hot or drenched in butter. And as a bonus, these picks interlock with their mate, so there is no unnecessary pricking or puncturing of your precious fingers when retrieving them from the drawer. Retire those cans of corn and bring back the only true way a corn fan eats corn; on the cob!

Sally Hansen Quick Fast Dry Nail Pen

Sally Hansen Quick Fast Dry Nail Pen

I have been going to a nail salon to get my nails done for years so I have kind of been removed from the DIY at home nail supplies. However, I was going through a magazine this past weekend and came across an ad for the Sally Hansen Quick Fast Dry Nail Pen and it really caught my attention. I think this is really cool. Back when I would try to do my own nails, I was never really that good at it and would have trouble maneuvering the brush and getting the angle correctly for applying the nail polish. This Nail Pen basically allows you to draw the nail polish right onto your nails. You just click the pen and it dispenses the color onto the small brush which you can just glide over your nails. It’s a fast-dry formula and you don’t have to worry about spillage. What I really like about this is that it can conveniently fit in your purse so if you chip your nails you can quickly and easily reapply right on the go.
